Weekend (Design) Warriors

Desiring to create a design worthy home? Below are four things you can easily do this weekend to make your home more pleasing to the eye...

LOWER YOUR ART! In most homes, the art is hung way too high. Lower your artwork and photographs to the point where the center of the piece is at eye level for a normal height person (about 58 inches off of the floor). If the art is above a piece of furniture, be sure it is no more than 6 inches above the item.

REPOSITION THE BED! Arrange your bed so that when you enter into the bedroom the foot of the bed is facing the door. This will create a more open feel and will allow the bed to be the highlight of the space.

MOVE AWAY FROM THE WALLS! Furniture should never all be shoved apart and all against the walls in a space. Items should be laid out in groups so that the pieces relate to one another to create conversation zones.

LIGHTEN UP! Don't just depend on overhead lighting in a room. For the best ambiance, layer your lighting. Be sure to have at least three sources of lighting in each space. (For example, a table lamp, recessed lights, and floor lamps.)
