“The table is to the dining room as the sofa is to the living room. Pretty important. The color of the wood in the dining room table is, more often than not, the anchor of the room. But you can play off that with other elements such as drapes, a rug and table top décor. Choose surfaces in a style that coordinates with your table—don’t pair a maple sideboard with an inlaid table. The materials don’t need to match exactly, but they should carry a similar weight in the room” (Roney, 2008).
