1. MUTED WALLS- “I love a subtle color story in a living room where people congregate to relax and talk – softer tones make you more laid-back.”
2. EXPANSIVE RUG- “Bigger is always better – an area floor covering needs to be large enough so all the furniture fits on it. A rug connects everything in the room and can add color. Make sure there are at least 6 inches between it and the wall, though, so it doesn’t feel like carpeting.”
3. SMART LIGHTING- “Place lamps close to the walls to keep them from blocking potential conversation spots. Or simply use ones with clear bases.”
4. SIZE MATTERS- “Look for ample seats (at least 30 inches makes it better for curling up on) and a tall back (25 inches minimum)."
5. FUNCTIONAL FABRICS- “Choose fabrics such as canvas or linen that’s not overly precious, so guests feel free to kick back on it.”
